Frodo woke up on Sunday (26 Oct) morning far from fine. He was perfect on Saturday night. We thought maybe he got a cold, as Avis came down with the snufflies. But, no symptoms. Went back and forth on things and finally took him into a vet on Friday. Our vet was out of town until Tuesday, so this was somebody different. He wasn't good, but at least could look and see if it was pneumonia or something, which it wasn't. Frodo was just indifferent to everything and so tired that he hardly moved.Wouldn't eat, wouldn't really do anything. And that was strange, as he tends to be nutso man. We were thinking he had a heart attack on Saturday/Sunday night. He's had what we called seizures in his early years. But after watching Beatrice die of a heart attack this summer, we think he was having small attacks in the past. We are thinking that he might have had a bigger one on the weekend.
We took him to our vet Tuesday morning and got an x-ray. It turns out that his heart was enlarged and filling his chest cavity. You can't even see it on the x-rays. A couple of his siblings died of the same thing when they were little, so it wasn't a complete surprise. She said that it is really amazing with the remedies, as he wasn't exhibiting the signs that she should see in a cat with his condition. She said he has about a couple of months left at the most. He made it until today and went into congestive heart failure. Our vet wasn't in, so we had to take him in to another one in Mt. Vernon and have him go to sleep.
Wet food just isn't the same without Frodo! He was such a personable little fellow! But, he is happy now back with his Mama and Manly.
